Choosing Growth

Choosing Growth

I have a natural tendency to avoid things in life I find difficult. Or things that scare me. I'd rather sit back, do nothing, and stay in my comfort zone - its very familiar to me. This keeps me safe, feeling secure and the outcomes are known.

The problem: growth doesn't happen by always doing the same thing you did before.

Growth happens by stepping out, trying something new and being willing to fail. Growth requires being vulnerable and authentic.

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.”  Theodore Roosevelt

I have found that there are no shortcuts or workarounds for me to truly grow without taking some risk. I can read up on a topic or study to become more knowledgeable, but that doesn't mean I am growing. Growth comes from applying that knowledge. What I see as intentional actions.

Intentional actions are those decisions we make to drive towards outcomes we truly desire.

Even though my natural tendency is to stay in the shadows, I am making a different choice. I recognize and acknowledge my tendency to sit on the sidelines, but I am choosing the next step with some risk.

Choosing Growth: Recognize. Acknowledge. Take the next step.

I am choosing the intentional action to write and express my thoughts and ideas daily for the month of January. I am not sure how this journey will go, but I am choosing to move forward through the unknown to make it known.

What intentional action have you taken recently to choose growth?
